Artist and the Process

I could tell you that I have an art degree from some prestigious art school, or that painting came naturally to me without any training, but neither of those statements would be accurate. Truth be told, I did take several art and photography classes in college, where I was not an art major, but a writing major.

While I have a degree in Arts & Letters, the focus was much more on the letters than the arts. However, I have been creating in both genres since graduating in 1987.

There has always been a multi-media mix to my artwork. I spent years creating black and white photographs…then hand painted them…

then spent years creating Polaroid manipulations from details of  35 mm slide projections …which I then re-shot in 35 mm to enlarge…

followed by years working with paint, hair, thread, image transfers, found objects, etc. to create multi-media collage.

So it comes as no surprise that my pet portrait process also has aspects of multi-media creation to it.

I begin with reference photographs of your animal, which are either supplied by you, or shot by me. I use a program that resembles Photoshop which enables me to edit and compose an image that will create an exciting painting.

Then I paint…stroke by stroke…and what you receive in the end is a canvas portrait of your best friend that is vibrant, vivid, colorful, magical and wonderful.

Sizes range from 10" x 10" to 40" x 48," so we'll need to have a discussion about wall space and budget. Be assured, your investment will be well worth it.

Your pet oughta be in pictures!  Let me paint a special gift for you today, a modern work of art, with your cherished furry family member as the subject. You’ll love it for a lifetime.
